About the Fredericton Rowing Club

The Fredericton Rowing Club (FRC) is situated along the banks of the beautiful St. John River, in the heart Fredericton, New Brunswick's Capital City. Our club offers junior, senior and masters programs for frequent rowers and a Learn to Row for newcomers.

Although our club is small, many rowers from the club have gone on to win at the local, regional, national and international competitions thanks in part to the highly professional and dedicated coaches that have been part of the club.

Early mornings and evenings at the boathouse are a busy but fun place to be and during the summer months. We host two regattas: The Alantic Crew Classic (ACC) and the Head of the Four Bridges. We also attend local regattas, The Royal Henley and a few compete at the nationals as well.

Marc-Oliver Klages

Marc-Oliver Klages is a Level 3 NCCP Rowing Certified Coach.  He has had coaching positions of increasing responsibility over the span of a 18 year coaching career.  He has served in clubs around the world including Germany, The United States, Canada and most recently in China for their national team.  Closer to home, he was head coach at the Montreal Rowing Club in 2007 and 2008.  Members of that club have spoken very highly of him.

He brings an extensive knowledge of training, competition, rigging and administration with him to our club.  He looks forward to helping FRC continue its history of remarkable results  at domestic and international regattas.

Marc-Oliver is a lifelong rowing enthusiest who enjoys the comraderie of a rowing club as much as he does the technical and athletic development aspects of our sport.  He looks forward to working with the Junior, Senior, and Masters rowers in our growing club.  He will also help to introduce rowing to members of our community by working with our Learn to Row programs.  And of course Marc-Oliver's vast technical, planning, and training skills will be well suited to our intermediate and advance rowers working on their always evolving goals in both sculling and sweep rowing.

Steve Watson

Steve rowed for Rutgers University's Division I Lightweights in New Brunswick, NJ and has now competed as a masters rower for 10 years.  Until last year when he joined FRC he was a member of Swan Creek Rowing Club in Lambertville, NJ.

While at SCRC he competed, coached, was on the board of directors, and served as president.  He regularly competed successfully at regional and national regattas. (Recent highlights include contributing to the Team Points Trophy at the Carnegie Lake Regatta in Princeton, NJ in 2007 by winning both the Men's 4+ and the Mixed 8+ .  At the 2006 FISA Masters Worlds he stroked the 2- and Mixed 8+ to Bronze and Silver place finishes respectively.)

He is USRowing certified coach returning this year to FRC after working with the LTR, Adult Development and Masters programs last season and during winter training.
