FREDERICTON - Twenty-nine boats of varying crews participated in the provincial rowing championships held on the St. John River on Saturday.
Two races each 2km in length made up the competition, with boats going off at 20 second intervals. Instead of specific races for each category, each of the two races included crews of varying sizes with the winners determined by a formula including time, age of the crew, numbers in the crew, etc.
In the first flight it was Jamie Abbass taking first, followed by teammate Adam Bliss, both of the Fredericton Rowing Club. Greg Theriault of Kennebecasis Rowing Club was third. All three were in the senior men's single category.
In the second flight, Theriault and Keegan Drummond placed first in the senior men’s pair followed by Johnston and Losier in the women’s double, both from KRC. Third place went to Jean-noel Roy, Dion Durnford, Roger Tremblay and Mike Casey of FRC in the master men’s quad.
